Please enjoy my video today with all the details about creating a Brusho Watercolor background and then watch how I used it to die cut the Butterfly Beauty thinlit dies from Stampin’ UP! You’ll see how I made these cards which also feature the Sale-a-Brtation Butterfly Elements!
How to Create a Brusho Watercolor Background:
- To help avoid curling, you can tape down the watercolor paper to a piece of cardboard with Washi Tape or painters tape
- Place the cardboard with Watercolor paper inside a box, or otherwise protect your work surface
- Use a Stampin’ Spritzer or spray bottle and dampen watercolor paper
- Sprinkle any colors of Brusho Crystal Colour you desire onto the wet paper
- Add more water and more Brusho until you achieve the desired effect
- TIP! Watch the video at the bottom of this post for another tip to protect your work surface when using Brusho!
I created this background and the cards while stamping with Cindee a few months ago, and I’m super excited to finally share these with you! I love the backgrounds and I love how the butterfly cards turned out!
I also decided to spritz water and sprinkle Brusho on the Butterfly elements wood sheets of flowers and butterflies (a free gift choice during Stampin’ Up! 2019 Sale-a-Bration). Let’s say that the yellows, oranges and reds probably turned our better than the blues and greens… those dried a bit too dark.
This is the finished result of our pretty butterfly elements and flowers with the red, orange and yellow Brusho colors.
For my first card, I layered the 2 pieces from the Butterfly Beauty Thinlits, and I elected to have the Brusho detailed die cut piece on top, and die cut a cardstock piece in Pool Party and another one with Daffodil Delight, then add some sponged color and piece them together as my background piece. This will make a lot more sense when you watch the video at the bottom of this post 🙂
Below: Here you can see what I was describing in the photo above.. the sponged Pool Party and Daffodil Delight butterfly die cut cardstock piece is behind the Brusho die cut butterfly piece. I layered them onto a background of Blueberry Bushel cardstock embossed with the Swirls & Curls embossing folder. If you are looking for any of these Stampin’ UP! supplies, please check out my online store here, or go to any of the product photos at the bottom of my blog post to shop online.
Above: I added one of my pretty Brusho Butterfly wood element pieces right in the middle. Mulitpurpose Liquid glue works great for the wood elements.
Below: for this card, I did not layer the butterfly die cut piece, I simply used the single Butterfly Beauty thinlit that I die cut from the Brusho Watercolor background, and added it to my card. The background layers are Daffodil Delight, Garden Green and Blueberry Bushel.

Patty on your shimmer mist what is the ration of alcohol to shimmer paint?
HI Barbara, I fill it about 3/4 full of rubbing alcohol then drop in about 10 drops of shimmer paint.
