I hope you enjoy my Watercolored hibiscus card today. If you are in a snowy part of the world, I hope it brings happy, sunny thoughts… and I hope it inspires you to create something pretty today!
My handstamped card was inspired by a card on Pinterest by “Scraps by Sissy” featuring the Seaside embossing folder and stamped oval with the Beach Happy Stampin’ UP! stamp set. I added the watercolored hibiscus flower from the Humming Along stamp set to make my card a little different (because I didn’t want to copy Sissy’s card 100% you know) 🙂
Watercolor Tips:
To create the watercolored hibiscus flower image, I stamped it in Versamark ink on Shimmery White cardstock, sprinkled gold embossing powder on it and heat set it with my Heat Tool. Then I smooshed my clear blocks into several colors of Stampin’ UP! ink and used my AquaPainter to pick up ink colors and color the flower, starting with a light wash of Mango Melody and adding more colors as shown above. TIP! Although I’m not a watercolor professional by any means, I did find one tip to pass along… let the ink dry just slightly in between colors so that it blends together slowly and doesn’t just become all one new color.
Stamparatus Tips:
For the palm tree oval, I die cut Watercolor Paper with the largest oval in the Layering Ovals framelit set in my Big Shot, and did a light wash of Mango Melody and Soft Suede ink at the bottom for the sand. (NOTE: I think I like it better with the sand on less of the oval than with so much “sand” as shown above). When that was dry, I added a light wash of Balmy Blue ink to the sky. When it was TOTALLY dry I put the oval on my Stamparatus, held down with the magnet, and stamped the Beach Happy stamp set. I stamped the palm tree trunk in Soft Suede and the palm fronds in 3 colors as shown above. Using the Stamparatus means the paper stays in one place while I inked it several times in 3 greens… perfect placement! Need more info on the Stamparatus? Watch my Stamparatus video tutorial here.
Stampin’ UP! Color Combo:
I used all of these colors on my card: Lovely LIpstick, Melon Mambo, Mango Melody, Poppy Parade, Grapefruit Grove, Soft Suede, Bermuda Bay, Balmy Blue, Call me Clover, Lemon Lime Twist, plus the Granny Apple Green marker.
You can purchase the Humming Along stamp set (which includes the hibiscus flower stamp) by itself, or you can purchase it in a bundle with the Hummingbird framelits. You can also purchase the framelits alone, as well. Lots of choices… but why not save 10% and get them both! 🙂

The Seaside embossing folder is paired with the Coastal Cabana cardstock, and I used multipurpose liquid glue to add it to the top fold Crumb Cake card base.
The final touch is a grouping of 3 Glitter Enamel Dots in Coastal Cabana. Adds just the right touch!!
