How to Color with Stampin’ Blends Video

Tips for How to Color and Shade with Stampin' Blends markers by Patty Bennett www.PattyStamps.com

Coloring with Stampin’ Blends is my Happy Place.  I continually get asked to share my tips for How to Color with Stampin’ Blends so I thought a video would be a good place to start! It’s Free!  I’ve included it here at the bottom of this post.  6 Helpful Tips for blending and shading are included!

Before You Begin:

Tip 1: Swatching Colors

Before I start any project, I like to get out the colors I think I will use, and a scrap of Whisper White cardstock, then make a swatch of each color, label it, and refer back to it as I color.

Tip 2: Using Light & Dark to create Contrast, and leaving White Spots

Breathtaking Bouquet set is now retired, but you can see colors used HERE.  Center image is from the Jar of Flowers Set.

Tip 3: Shading Small Spaces

Avoid going over and over a smaller image, because too much ink will cause it to bleed outside the lines.  Freezin Fun Card HERE.

Tip 4: Coloring Large Images

Color only parts of a large image at a time, and don’t be afraid to blend several colors on one image.  Magnolia stamp set HERE.

Tip 5: Blending Several Colors

You do not have to stick with just the light and dark of one Stampin’ Blends color combo. I combined So Saffron, Calypso Coral and Cajun Craze on the dragonfly from Dandy Garden.  I also stamped the dragonfly image in Garden Green ink!!  Yes! You CAN use other colors of ink!! 🙂  (Dandy Garden suite and dragonfly coming Jan. 5, 2021).

Tip 6:  Outlining images with Pool Party

Using a Light Pool Party marker to outline images is a fun tip.  It is VERY subtle but adds a great touch to your images.  Have a Hoot Bundle HERE. Warm & Toasty (bear) set HERE.

  6. Thank you so much for all the helpful tips, Patty. I almost have given up on the blends. They never look like I want them to. In fact, I avoid stamps that need coloring! But I’m trying again using your tips and liking the results much better. Thanks again.

  7. This is my second time to watch your incredible, very interesting and definitely very helpful tips with Stampin Blends. Your work is absolutely amazing. You are so gifted and appreciate you sharing so many of your tips and ideas. Love the organizational swatches. I would have passed over the succulents and I live in an area where many are used in landscaping as well as inside plants. Your research certainly changed my mind.
