The Bennett Family Penguin Christmas Tree!

If you didn’t know….. I love Penguins (and so does our son!).

And if you didn’t see it.. I shared our Penguin tree on social media earlier this month.  It’s SOOO cute in person!!!

Bennett Family Penguin Christmas tree 2023.

We’ve been collecting penguins for about 25 years or so.  I saw an idea on FB early in December, someone posted a photo of their tree filled with stuffed doggies, and I thought.. WAIT.. I need to try that with our penguins!!  I actually had NO idea I’d be able to fill the tree PLUS have leftovers!! 🙂

I started with lights… we found that only about 10% of the lights on our “pre-lit” tree were working.. so we trotted off to Big Lots and bought more, then added several strands of lights to the tree.  Then I googled how many yards of garland I would need for a 7-1/2 foot tall tree, then we made a trip to “the M store” and bought silver tinsel garland and red berry sprigs to give a little color to the tree.  After that I sorted the penguins and added larger ones to the bottom, medium ones in the middle and all our little penguins to the top!

Do you decorate your tree with a theme?

  1. Looking at your penguin tree brought back lots of memories – for over 45 years we decorated every room inside the house and opened it for our church and my husband’s office to have their Christmas gatherings as well as friends just wanting to come through for tours. The most trees I did inside the house at one time was 37 trees from 10 ft. to 6 in..(even the little trees had decorations). We did many theme trees – Teddy Bears, Snowmen, Santa Claus, Disney, Snoopy/Peanuts, Angels, Churches, Nutcrackers, Rocking horses, M&M’s, Kitchen Decor, Candy, Travel etc. Even the bathrooms and laundry rooms were decorated and our most famous tree was the “Christmas tree in the Shower”. We have downsized our house now and my husband is over 80 with dementia and arthritis- I am not far behind him and have arthritis also so we only put up a few small trees now and of course the nativity scene we bought when we first got married 55 years ago. Loved your penguin tree and thinking about the memories. Merry Christmas!

  2. Your tree is really cute with all the penguins on it. I was laughing at “the M store”, as I can’t figure out what store you are talking about. I don’t live anywhere near you, so my state may not have whatever it is you are referring to, but thought it was funny. Yes, I have several themed Christmas trees. My favorite is the one in our living room that is patriotic red, white, and blue, with stars and flags. Each tree matches the decor of the room. We have a peppermint and gingerbread tree in the kitchen. We have a train tree in our son’s room, which matches his wallpaper and decor. We have a music tree in the piano/music room, and a lodge-style tree in the den.

  3. Awesome tree! I am 52yr old and every Christmas, birthday, Easter & Valentines Day since I was 6yr old I have asked for a (real) penguin! Every year, my parents , husband and kids gift me with a penguin – stuffed, earrings, sweaters, sweatshirts, figurines, tablecloths, dishes, etc! I’m the lucky owner of 300 “ penguins” but still waiting for the real thing !
Thanks for sharing your story & your penguin tree!!

We don’t have a tree : without children and grandchildren our life is as usual. But one thing we do : we eat a good meal!!!
Thank you for sharing your tree!
    HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
