Before and After: Shading with Watercolor Pencils!
To say I’ve had fun with this technique would be an understatement!! I’ve been using my watercolor pencils to add shading on top of solid stamped images!!!
Scroll down and see the all the great images I’ve been working on, and be sure to Watch the Video!
Credit for this idea goes to the ultra talented Barry & Jay of Mitosu Crafts!!! Thank you for the inspiration!
Isn’t it just truly amazing what a little bit of shading with the Watercolor Pencils can do for this image!!?
Watercolor Pencils:
The Pacific Point and Basic Black pencils used in this Bottled Happiness card are from assortment #1.
I did use ALL 23 colors in both packs in all of my samples (some are not shown in this post, but are on the video)
My Bottled Happienss card today also features Fern 3D embossing folder with Parakeet Party cardstock, a Tahitian Tide card base (to match the Tahitian Tide bottle), the new Charming Sentiments bundle (for the thank you), and the cute Fun Flowers Resin Shapes!! A sweet Parakeet Party Bakers Twine bow finishes off this card!
Did you see all these images in the watercolor pencil shading video below? Did you have a favorite? I think they are all pretty amazing!
I’ll be sharing cards with some of these images soon. Please check back MONDAY, May 23rd for the Swimsuit card!

Hi Patty, thanks for sharing a wealth of information. Such a beautiful difference. I’m so glad you shared this with us today. This alone makes some stamp sets more appealing to me now. As well, thank you for the link to the two gentleman who I just subscribed too. Have a great weekend.
So glad you enjoyed it Beth! Thanks for your kind comment! And yes, I agree.. I had not thought of it that way, but it does make some sets more appealing now!!

I have used water color pencils for a long time and find that Stampin Up are the best!!! They are soft and creamy. I have the original tin set and my yellow is running low … so hence …. time to buy new ones. Love this technique! Have stamp pads and now have water color pencils to match!
Thank you for sharing this technique. What a difference a little shading makes!!
Great tips Patty! Everything looks so realistic.
What a cool trick! The basket looks so real! Now I need to get that set…
