Brayered Sunset / Lake card

One of the projects we made using some Brayering Techniques at my Luv 2 Stamp Group downline meeting on Saturday was this card:

Brayer lake card

I masked the bottom portion and then the top 2/3 was brayered first with So Saffron, then More Mustard then Really Rust.  Each color is brayered a little less and less so that the Rust is just on the top 1" or so.  Then, with the mask still at the horizon line, I sponged a little Rust ink right at the horizon.

After brayering (braying?) the top 2/3 with So Saffron, that's when I put the circle mask down (punch a post-it with one of our circle punches).  Then the other 2 colors were brayered.

I tore a mask for the hills, and sponged with Close to Cocoa.

Then I masked the top/sky portion and brayered the bottom with Baja Breeze and then Not Quite Navy.

Last step was to highlight with the White Gel Pen:

Imaging the sun coming from the right, I highlighted the right side of the tips of the grass blades (the stamp is Inspired by Nature stamped in Basic Gray).

I also added white streaks to the water.

My downline attending the meeting or requesting a long distance packet received the 5 page step by step tutorial from me.  I hope the above info is helpful to everyone else.  You can also check out all of the wonderful brayered projects by Michelle HERE. This is where I learned most of the brayering techniques I shared with my team on Saturday.

  1. Your sunset card is beautiful. I love sunsets and this is amazing. I enjoy following your blog. I just became a demo in April and I love Stampin’ Up.

  2. This looks amazing Patty. It is so much easier than I thought it would be, or at least it sounds easier!
I guess I’ll be purchasing a brayer now! Thanks for sharing the How To information.

  3. WOW! That is beautiful! I already ‘creatively copied’ your brayered sunset card for my upline’s shoebox swap this past Monday. This card I may have to do the same with…..maybe for my stamp club! Thanks for all the great ideas!
