Birthday & Thank You Shutter Cards
Yesterday I shared my method for making these shutter cards (or Fractured cards) using a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of designer paper and 2 small scraps. Please be sure to watch the video below if you didn’t catch the live video presentation.
The birthday cards above and below are created with the Stampin’ Up! Wildflower Birthday designer paper pack. It includes great floral and birthday patterns as well as the adorable pink gingham below, AND has fabulous precolored die cut images you can add to your cards, like the cupcakes on the trio of birthday cards above. I stamped time to celebrate in Blueberry Bushel ink (from the Beautiful Butterflies set) and fussy cut it with my Paper Snips.
Don’t forget the inside of your cards. Recently, instead of just a white layer inside a darker card base, I’ve been adding a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of designer paper AND a white layer. Doesn’t everyone love a little surprise inside??
Pieces to Make the Shutter Card
The pieces are shown on the video. You’ll need:
- 4″x5-1/4″ DSP piece
- 4 strips: 1/2″ x about 5″
- 1 square (I used the Stylish Shapes dies) or, cut approx 2″ sq
- 2 DSP pieces about 2-1/2″ x 3-1/2
- card base: 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored and folded in 1/2

Mixed Media Floral Cards
The Mixed Media Floral designer paper pack is one of my FAVORITE paper packs ever. I love how these Shutter Cards turned out with this paper pack!!
I kept this set of 4 Thank You cards pretty simple, and just stamped the greeting from the My Small Business stamp set inside the center square with Boho Blue ink or black ink to match the card base.
My final shutter card idea for you today showcases the Full of Life paper and the Friends for Life bundle. (sorry it got left off the supply list below).

The pieces above are the designer paper pieces I used and showed on the video. You’ll need:
- 4″x5-1/4″ DSP piece
- 4 strips: 1/2″ x about 5″
- 1 square (I used the Stylish Shapes dies) or, cut approx 2″ sq
- 2 DSP pieces about 2-1/2″ x 3-1/2
- card base: 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored and folded in 1/2

The Storybook Moments designer paper pack has these cute patterns plus 2 full sheets of precolored die cut pieces to add to your card!!
For the woodgrain strips, I used the County Woods paper.
Tip for Embellishments
Have you ever colored embellishments with Stampin’ Blends? Look how CUTE this is when you add black embellishments to the Meant to Bee shutter card!! I colored the Antique Pearls with a Basic Black Stampin’ Blends marker. Bonus Tip: use glimmer paper for the strips!
