Here in the Western United States, we were able to experience the amazing
Solar Eclipse on May 20, 2012.
We live across the bay from San Francisco and were in one of the regions able to view this eclipse.
We all know that we should not look AT the sun… ok.. that didn't stop my hubby and I from trying to glimpse the sun… but…
what you CAN SAFELY DO is look at the
SHADOWS BEING CAST BY THE SUN
during an eclipse to see the interesting effects of the moon passing over the sun!
do you see all those little crescent shaped shadows in the top photo?? that is the amazing shadow effect you get with the moon in front of the sun!

Cool pictures. Just wanted to wish you a happy birthday!
Great images, Patty! I always tell my students to look for this during a solar eclipse. My DH and I viewed from center line, making the trek from So. Cal. to Kanaraville, Utah. My second annular, his first.
Love the shadows! What a unique way to look at the eclipse. You’re so creative!
I loved the photos. We live in Oklahoma and the clouds prevented us from seeing the eclipse. But I was fascinated by the shadows that were created. Thank you so much for sharing ALL your wonderful photos. (Not just the eclipse ones.)You are multi-talented, for sure.
