I was always afraid I'd do it wrong…. a Shaker Card that is… so I thought no better way to learn than to just DO IT!
I created this Detailed Santa Shaker Card for one of my stamping days with Cindee, and I love all the layers of Glimmer paper, shimmer and shine! I am NOT a glitter girl.. so adding the loose glitter to the "shaker recipe" nearly put me over the edge.. but I did it! :) And it's SOOOOOO pretty!
The Detailed Santa thinlit die is a WINNER.. it's so amazing.. the detail in the design is gorgeous! Find it on page 11 in the 2016 Stampin' Up! Holiday catalog or #141836 in my online store.
The Best Wishes for the season stamp comes from the Holly Berry Happiness set (pg 27 Holiday catalog #142061), and the round Celebrate stamp is found in the Here's to Cheers set, (pg 39 Holiday catalog, #142098 wood, and #142101 clear mount).
I've got LOTS of step by step photos below to show you what I did to create this great card.
Patty's Shaker Card Filler Recipe:
First, here is the "recipe" for the glitter filler in the shaker card. Of course you can add anything you want, but this is what I tried.. equal parts of Silver Glitter, Mica Flakes and Metallic Sequins. You'll find these embellishments on pages 177 and 181 in the annual catalog and on page 41 in the Holiday catalog. Put them all in an empty embellishment container, and shake it up, then dump it into your shaker card.
Below: Step by Step: the 8 steps I used to create the Detailed Santa Shaker Card:
I started with the folded Real Red Card, then die cut the borders on the Shimmery White panel, stamped the greeting, and layered it onto the folded red card. Then I attached the Real Red Glimmer paper with multipurpose glue, and added the adhesive foam strips. OK, now you are ready for step 1 below..
As I mentioned.. I'm really not a glitter girl.. so when I opened my glitter (no, I had never opened it before!) I LAUGHED out loud at the "sealed for your protection" labeling!! 🙂
Below: the supplies and dimensions I used for my Santa Shaker Card:
I just had to add this cute celebrate stamped image.. I love how the swirlies coordinate with the swirlies in the Santa Beard!!
This stamp is found in the Here's to Cheers stamp set, pg 39 in the Holiday catalog. It is die cut with the Layering Circles framelits and layered onto a scalloped real red circle, also die cut with the Layering Circle framelits.
And then… check this out… look how pretty this card is even without the "shaker card" layer… you can just put the Detailed Santa on top of the red glimmer paper and it's still amazing!! We tried it both ways, and loved it both ways… in the photo below, you really can't tell but we did put the window sheet over the red glimmer paper.. you don't have to.. but it looks really neat!
Hope you enjoyed the Shaker Card today!!

Good morning Patty, Oh your cards are GORGEOUS….. My Detailed Santa and Thinlets just came so I’m really anxious to start making cards. I’m soooo glad you told me how to make a shaker card. I have been making cards for about 7 yrs. but never made a shaker card,lol….. I only made the traditional cards….. I will be making these for Christmas. Thank you sooooo much Patty and have a great day.getting ready to place another order, lol… I want it ALL
I can relate to your lack of using glitter. I just received my SU order with 3 Calendar Kits from the clearance rack. Each kit contains a pretty good sized packet of glitter. One kit came with the glitter packet opened (exploded). Glitter everywhere. Took it outside and now my driveway shimmers. I don’t think it will ever come out of the sponge that is included in the kit. Ughhhhh. I am thankful for my swifter duster. It picks up glitter really well.
P.S. Really cute card.
I’ve seen this die used quite a bit, but this is, by far,the prettiest card I’ve seen made with it. Wonderful job and thank you so much for sharing the details with us. Can’t wait to try this myself. BTW, I hate glitter, too! The swiffer dry mop cloths really help with clean-up if you never tried that before…I love your idea of combining the glitter contents in the container first.
Hi Patty,
Love, love, love your card. I am a glitter person, and so I really love your card. It is just so beautiful, and thanks for sharing the how to make a shaker. Thanks again, and have a wonderful week.
Best wishes,
Karren
Hi Patty,
Love this! I’m going to try it your way because it looks so much prettier. Thank you for sharing!

I’m always learning something new from you. This card is absolutely stunning. I really want to try this out. Thanks for the inspiration.
Love that you used the Red Glimmer paper for background. Such a cool look, with or without the shaker element. Another great idea, thanks!
Absolutely, gorgeous!!
Wow, such a neat idea for your bag, and card to match. Such a great giveaway—have never won anything and this would be a start—LOL—Thanks for sharing and always love your emails.
Thanks Donna Sicafuse
