Yesterday was Eric’s birthday, and of course, as I’ve done for about 35 years, I made him a handmade birthday card. Just this week I saw some adorable cards featuring this Stampin’ Up! set called Breaking News. I thought the idea of including a date was perfect and decided to use that idea from Cindy Schuster! (yes, I know these little number dies are retired, but you could also just write the date).
I added a pocket inside to make my slimline birthday card a gift card holder! The cute striped paper is from the hugely popular “Celebrate Everything” paper stack in the July-Dec (holiday) 2022 mini catalog. It’s a hostess rewards offering that may be purchased when you have an order of $150 or more. It includes 48 sheets and is amazing!
To color the cake, I decided to stamp it with Poppy Parade ink on white cardstock, then add color with a Blending Brush and more Poppy Parade ink. I cut it out and put it on the newspaper stamp image.
And to all of you who don’t like fussy cutting.. this image is EASY to cut out with paper snips. And it’s just super cute!! As you can see below or online, the Breaking News stamp set comes with many greetings and images to create a newspaper clipping for many occasions.
Above: my Stampin’ Up! color combo for Eric’s birthday card.
Below: One fun thing to note for my slimline birthday card, I used a piece of Snowflake Specialty vellum with the flocked polka dot pattern over my Tahitian Tide slimline card base!
Dimensions: Slimline Tahitian Tide base card: 7″ x 8-1/2″, scored at 3-1/2″ and folded in half. Snowflake (polka dot) vellum: 3-1/4″ x 8-1/4″.

Happy Birthday Eric, enjoy your celebration!!!!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!!
Beautiful card, Patty! Just wondering, if Eric turned 35, why did you put the year 1958?
LOL too funny.. yep, 64 this year!
I love this card. When I first saw it in my email I thought “WOW” how did Patty know my grandsons Birthday was coming up! Then I realized it was your husbands birthday. It’s a great card, I hope you don’t mind if I make a similar one for my grandson Eric. He will love it !!
I’m sure he will love it too!! have fun making it for him!!
Your cards and ideas are always super cute and amazing! What was the secret to getting the newspaper lines on the right side of the newspaper page? Did you just ink up the lines only and stamp them on the other side?
Yes, that’s exactly what I did.. didn’t like the blank space.
