Yes, you read that right.. I made these cards with my grandma 55 years ago!!
I have such amazingly vivid memories of picking the wildflowers on their 3 acre property, pressing them in phone books, and then using them to make cards!
Below are several photos of my grandma – we all called her Nanny. Nanny & Boppy were so amazing.. so fun to visit, and Nanny was always such a whirlwind of activity and always either cooking, harvesting food in her garden, feeding her desert turtles, checking on neighbors or crafting. At least that’s how I remember her. She did needlepoint, cross stitch, quilting, card making and more, and she was always happy to teach my cousins and I anything we wanted to learn!
What I can even remember more vividly than that, is the smell of ironing the flowers between the layers of the parchment and rice papers! That smell was so distinct!
I treasure those times and memoires with my cousins and our Nanny.
So yes, I guess cardmaking was in my blood and I was destined to be a cardmaker!!

Thank you Patty for sharing it with me! I love this because I didn’t know my grandparents at all …. All the pictures are beautiful. And your cards also!
Such beautiful memories of your grandma Patty. Thanks for sharing.
You are truly talented! The cards are just beautiful.
Have a wonderful day!
Such great memories!! Love the cards!!!
Your memories post brings back so many memories from my 77 years of life with my grandmothers and beyond. No card making. Their crafts were crocheting and embroidery. I look at your photos and see an afghan like mine from grandma’s hands. I remember following my grandmas around as they tended their yards of flowers, food, and animals. My oldest card making memory is from cutting out cards to paste in scrapbooks to share with kids in hospitals. Later as I began my teaching career in 1968, I found (near Apple Valley) some cards like your first cards in a store. From that time, for many years we created copies of those, my students and I, Mothers Day cards.
Love this so much, Patty! Thanks for sharing.
What treasured memories! Those are gorgeous cards! You are so blessed to have had wonderful grandparents and wonderful memories with them.
You are truly blessed to have had such wonderful grandparents. I love remembering my childhood years and all the wonderful times my sister and I had growing up in Flushing, NY. We were blessed by learning cooking, sewing and making our own paper dolls.
Patty, these cards are gorgeous. I love dried flowers. I, too, have a wonderful grandmother who was very crafty. Thanks for showing the wonderful pictures. Enjoy your day!
Beautiful cards, beautiful memories. You are blessed to have these. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful memories! My great grandmother was my inspiration to crafting
What wonderful memories. So many people don’t see their grandparents these days. I am blessed that I do get to see relatives from time to time and some of them live in Colorado. So happy for you Patty. ❤️❤️❤️#2
Thank you for sharing this story. It is so much like my own. I called my grandmothers Nanny also and now my two granddaughters call me Nanny. I so warms my heart to hear them say it. They also love to craft and make cards with me and at this time of year especially (but always!), I feel so blessed to have such a loving family.
Your grandmother is lovely, as is the story you shared. No crafting per se in my childhood, but I made all my Barbie furniture out of tissues, empty tissue paper boxes, cereal boxes, scotch tape and glue or the occasional rubber band. I thoroughly enjoy watching you create via tutorials, and videos. Thank you for sharing your gifts! Congrats on each of your Stampin’ Up accomplishments! Beckie from MN.
My Grandmother (Dad’s Mom) sort of favored me out of our bunch! I spent many nights at Gramma’s house. I remember playing dress up with her dresses and costume jewelry. Gramma was a great one for canning her stewed apricots, jams and jellies, etc. I did learn to can, but not from her. Gramma taught me to be independent and strong. I learned the most important thing from her…how to be a grandmother. I was unable to bear children. My husband has two children from his first marriage. I became a stepmom (now called Mom!) From their children, I became an ‘Amma’. I feel the Lord blessed me immensely with how circumstances turned out. My eldest granddaughter married last year, and the second granddaughter is still living the single life, and that is good too! My grandmother’s talent was sewing. I remember she would make my sister and I, shorts and tops sets in the summer. We were so fashionable! Also playing with shampooed hair outside in our bathing suits!
We would create hairstyles with our soapy hair!!! Thanks for the walk down your memory lane and the ability to bring me back to my memory lane!
