Fall Leaf Watercolor Wash Background Video Tutorial

I am super excited to share a video tutorial with you today, so that you can create these gorgeous fall leaves and make these fun fall cards using your Stampin' UP! watercolor paper, reinkers, an Aquapainter and a Gold Wink of Stella pen!

I couldn't stop making these cards with the Leaflets framelits! I made about 30 cards.. it's so fun to watercolor these pretty backgrounds and die cut these beautiful leaves!

All of the cards feature the Woodland embossing folder in the background and the pretty leaves are attached on top of the folder background.  Watch the video below for all the details and tips for adding the leaves! 🙂

The Give Thanks greeting is new, from the 2016 Holiday catalog, page 43, in the Suite Seasons stamp set.  I stamped it in Early Espresso ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock, and punched the left end with the Banner Triple Punch.

The ribbon is 2 layers: 5/8" burlap ribbon and 1/4" natural trim gold ribbon, both on pg 178 in the annual catalog.  I find the burlap kind of bulky for knots or bows, so I just put a strip of it on the card.. you'll see that in the video. Then I tied the gold natural ribbon around this top-fold card.

One thing you'll notice as you make these, every one of these cards turns out different.  I just love them!  Watch the video below to see how I created the waterecolor backgrounds and also a tip for die cutting the watercolor paper and the Pumpkin Pie glimmer paper.

Watercolor Wash Background Leaves:

  • splatter more ink to the same side
  • when dry, splatter Gold Wink of Stella onto the watercolored paper

  3. Wow Patty, those leaves are stunning!! Thanks so much for your detailed step-by-step instructions, it was super easy to follow. Every single card you showed was beautiful and I love how different each watercolor piece turns out. I think the scraps would look really pretty with black paper behind them, sort of as a silhouette to make the outlined leaves really pop. Wouldn’t that be pretty hanging up in a grouping? Or maybe laminate them and use them as little placemats 🙂 Thanks again for sharing, I can’t wait to try this technique too!
