  32. Patty, as usual you are an inspiration! Or, in “stampin’ terms”, YOU ROCK! Thanks for sharing and yes, I agree the SU chipboard or balsa wood would do just fine for the frames. I was just at WallyWorld today and could have picked one up but better to teach a stamper how to fish than send her to a nat’s chain store, right? lol! Thanks for sharing…I love this! Had been trying to figure out how to use the full embossing folders and not have to layer it to death. OOOH, can you just see this with the Top Note die??? Jan Hoyt

  39. whoo hoo Patty it worked! So I took your suggestion and used the cardboard that comes in our catalog boxes (at the bottom/top) I ran a scrap piece of cardboard thru with my scallop oval die and use the oval cardstock as my guide. Traced it on the cardboard (cut to 51/2 x 4 1/4) and cut the centre oval out, leaving a oval ‘hole’ in the cardboard. I made 2 of them and glued them together. I followed all your directions and it worked perfectly! Now for those of us that can’t find the wooden ones at the craft store we can make our own!
    Thanks once again, Kerry

  51. YES!!! Patty, your idea of using chipboard WORKS beautifully! I made a frame by cutting 3 pieces of thin chipboard to 4 1/4″ X 5 1/2″. I centered then cut an oval opening in each piece of chipboard, one at a time, using an oval die (from a set of ‘thin dies’ that came nested; the thin dies will cut only 1 layer of thin chipboard at a time). Glue the 3 layers of chipboard together with the windows fully aligned after cutting the windows out of each piece. Two layers of chipboard still had some ‘ghosting’ of the embossing folder. Three layers of chipboard produced an excellent image and no ‘ghosting’ in the window. I had to modify my ‘sandwich’ to move it through the Big Shot. From the bottom up, here’s my sandwich: Multi-purpose platform using ALL tabs; 1 piece of chipboard that’s larger than the embossing folder (acting as a shim and protecting the multi-purpose platform’s surface); embossing folder loaded with piece of cardstock; your customized 3-layer chipboard template/frame; 1 cutting pad … and it’s ready to crank through. I was not able to find a combination of plates, tabs, and shims when using TWO cutting pads (the normal procedure).
Thanks Patty for sharing this great idea. You are marvelous!

Tonight’s tutorial with the flat center using the new petals-a-plenty folder is an awesome idea. This looks very sophisticated and elegant. I can hardly wait for an evening when I can work on making a frame template to figure out a variety of center finishes. I made a template using our chipboard long boards and the coluzzle oval. It worked absolutely wonderful. The sandwich that worked best was the multi-purpose platform with both tabs, then the chipboard template, the embossing folder with cardstock inside, and then a standard cutting pad. It turned out beautiful with the large stamp from Gifts of Christmas stamped in the oval. Thanks so much for sharing the technique!!!

  86. Patty, great idea. Looks awesome. But I think I saw someplace where you could do the same thing but just using an oval or square etc. by putting your c/s inside the emboss folder and than putting the oval etc. shape on top of the c/s. Close the emboss folder and run thru the Big Shot. This will act like the same as the wooden frame. I have not tried this, but I know I saw this on someone’s blog while blog hopping.
Think I will check it out.
