I had a vision in my head… and I'm not sure why that included a red sky.. I guess it was a dramatic sunset… but these lighthouse cards are what came out of my vision.. a dramatic watercolor wash background for my High Tide stamp set cards!

I hope you will watch my VIDEO TUTORIAL below in this post to see how I made these and to hear about the tips and additional components I added to these cards!

Fun Tips To Note:

  • all of the watercolor wash backgrounds turn out different
  • it's fun to experiment with different colors
  • the High Tide stamp set has some GREAT sentiments/greeting images
  • grass from the Basket Builder framelits is perfect on these cards
  • vellum die cut with the Sunburst Thinlit makes great "light" for the lighthouse

I think you'll be amazed at the color palette I used to make these cards and how easy the watercolor background is to create with the Stampin' Up! Clear Block E, a few ink pads and watercolor paper!!  Be sure to watch the video for all the fun details.

I stamped the greeting/sentiment onto watercolor paper and die cut it with the Stitched Shape framelits.

For this card, I die cut cardstock vellum with the Sunburst thinlit and colored it with the Daffodil Delight ink pad and sponge daubers, then added the "rays" to the card like light from the lighthouse.  See the VIDEO above for all the details.

Above:  I loved the printed paper background addition to this card.. a piece of "sunburst" printed paper from the Cupcakes & Carousels paper stack was perfect for the background of this card!!  🙂

Above/Below: the grass die cut piece from the Basket Builder framelit set (pg 18 Occasions catalog) was the perfect addition to some of my lighthouse cards.  I die cut it out of Crumb Cake cardstock then sponged some Old Olive and Soft Suede ink onto it.

Tip for stamping the lighthouse stamps from the High Tide Stampin' Up! set by Patty Bennett

For tips on stamping the lighthouse, and adding a little deeper color with your Stampin' Write marker, watch the video above in this blog post.

I found that I liked the Smoky Slate ink for the "shadow" of the lighthouse image the best.  I'm sure you will find lots of color combos you like!  It's fun to experiment! Just be sure to write them down so that you'll remember what you tried!

After stamping the lighthouse and "sand" on the separate piece of watercolor paper, I cut it out by hand and added it to the front of the card with a ton of Stampin' Dimensionals.
