Did you love the ideas I shared yesterday in my Peony die video!? You can make so many different types of peony flowers with the dies and using the Tasteful Textiles embossing folder is a really neat way to add subtle texture to the cardstock before die cutting!! I used both Petal Pink and Flirty Flamingo cardstock to try this out. The card above features the Flirty Flamingo cardstock.
After embossing with the Tasteful Textiles embossing folder, I sponged some Calypso Coral ink on the edges, then spritzed the cardstock with a mixture of Champagne Mist shimmer paint in a Stampin’ Spritzer with rubbing alcohol. THEN while it was damp, I crumbled it up in my hand, then flattened it out a bit but not all the way. I wanted some 3D texture. See below:
You can also do this technique without scrunching it up in your hand, see below for the Petal Pink cardstock pieces, embossed, sponged and spritzed, but not crumpled.
How to assemble the Peony dies
Be sure to watch the video tutorial below to see how to put the Peony die pieces together!
Remember, use LOTS of dimensionals when assembling your flower for a great 3D realistic look! Watch all my tips in the video.
My card base is a Whisper White Note Card, with a piece of Flowers for Every Season DSP on top. I added a 1″x5″ strip of Flirty Flamingo cardstock and stamped it with the hello greeting in the Borders Abound set. I thought it needed one more little thing, so I used my Calypso Coral Stampin’ Write Marker and drew a line.
Accessorize:
To tie in the shades of green from the designer paper I added some Just Jade Gingham Ribbon from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo pack, and 3 Playing with Patterns Resin dots.

Beautiful card. I used the same EF but embossed after I cut the peony dies. Didn’t want to squash the pretty texture.
Question for you. I have purchased several SU embossing folders lately (before I found you!) that will not work in my Vagabond, Big Shot or Cuttlebug. No matter what I try, I cannot get them to go through the machines. SU told me on the phone that I needed the “blue” plate but that it was not in stock. Soon after, everything retired so they no longer carry that blue specialty plate. I see in the catalog they carry another specialty plate but it says it is intended for use with the new cut and emboss machine. I have been out of work since March 13 due to our office having to shut down because of Covid 19. I can not afford to buy another cut and emboss machine. So you have any suggestions on how I can use those embossing folders?
Hi MaryAnn, I will link you below to a post about the blue plate for use with the 3D embossing folders. Our association with Sizzix is over and we no longer sell it. It is my understanding that you would be able to use our new plates with your Big Shot. I don’t have a Vagabond or Cuttlebug, so I am not positive about those. https://www.pattystamps.com/2019/07/how-to-use-the-new-3-d-embossing-folders-and-plate.html
Brilliant and beautiful!
