Gold Foil Sunflower birthday card

My friend Christine celebrated a fun milestone birthday last week and I made this special card for her! I used the Celebrate Sunflowers bundle and created a gold foil sunflower on her cheery birthday card!

When I was die cutting the sunflower out of the Gold Foil Paper, I forgot to flip the die upside down (this usually gives best results on detailed dies) and I saw that the pieces did not immediately fall out of the sunflower outline, so I thought wow! I am going to use that sunflower just like that!  If you want the detailed pieces of a die to fall out easily, flip the die upside down, put the paper on top and run it through your die cutting machine that way.

Supplies:

This card started out with a pocket on the front (see below) for the gift card, but then I ended up adding the gold foil sunflower right over the pocket, so I created a 2nd pocket inside!  Also used:  Ornate Layers dies, Flowers for Every Season designer paper and the Bumblebee Gingham ribbon.

Flowers for Every Season designer paper and Bumblebee Gingham ribbon paired with the Ornate Layers die were the base for this card.

I love the birthday greeting in the Fancy Phrases stamp set #152530, and stamped it in Bumblebee ink.  I also used some Bumblee enamel dots on the card.   The sunflower center is die cut with Soft Suede cardstock and the Sunflower dies and then I sponged some Champagne Mist Shimmer paint on the cardstock to help it shine like the gold foil!

Tip:

For quick and easy leaves, stamp them on Pear Pizzazz cardstock in Garden Green ink and just blend the color a little with a Blender Pen!

Above: I used 2 patterns from the Flowers for Every season Designer Paper on this card. I tried the Stampin’ Seal + for the pocket of the gift card and it’s holding remarkably well!! yay!!

  1. Good morning Patty,
Your card is beautiful Christine is one lucky lady to receive this card in the mail…..The sunflower looks great either way you cut it……Do you like the Stampin seal better than the fast fuse? Thanks for sharing your beautiful card and have a great day

    • Thanks Mary Ann! So glad you enjoyed it!! I like the Seal+ a little better than Fast Fuse – it seems stronger and glides on smooooothly… no little strings or glue boogies if you know what I mean 🙂
