Need a fun idea for a milestone birthday card?? I think you’ll love this idea with 75 and 50 candles!!
Be sure to WATCH THE VIDEO at the bottom of my post today to see how I made them!
I made these cards for Joy and Marcee and they loved them!! They are so fun to open and unfold and unfold and unfold!! 🙂
I settled on candles that were 1/2″ x 3″ cut from a variety of Stampin’ Up! designer papers, and found that 8 fit perfectly on a 1/2 sheet of cardstock, so 16 fit on the 4-1/4″ x 11″ card. I hinged the card bases together with designer paper – see the video for those details.
I wasn’t sure what I was going to use for the flames, and found the little wing on the Songbirds Builder punch was PERFECT!! Thank goodness because I didn’t really look forward to the idea of die cutting that many flames!! 🙂
I have several Milestone birthdays to make cards for this year, and I had the idea in my mind to create lots of candles for each card, then I saw an idea on Instagram shared by “didyoustamptoday” and knew exactly how I wanted to make these cards. Thanks for the awesome inspiration!!

Great idea, what did you use for an envelope?
I gave these both in person and put them in a cello envelope, but if you are mailing it, I’d use a padded envelope.
Patty, this is the cutest card I’ve seen lately. Love this idea for a couple of friends with milestone birthdays this year. Enjoy your day!
So happy you enjoyed it!!! They are so fun to make!!
What a great idea! These cards are so cute! Thanks for the tips for connecting the cardstock and making the flames.

Hi Maureen, yes, they were about 1 hour each but so worth it!!
Thank you so much for this great idea! I had made a card for my son’s 50th birthday, using the Bubble Over beer bottles (retired) but after seeing this, I’m making one with 50 candles! Love the idea! Thanks so much for sharing!
Oh I hope he loves it!!
Love that card! I do not have the bird punch, any ideas on how to create the flame? I tried free hand, but no luck. Thanks
There are lots of leaf dies and punches that would work.. you could even do the wings from the Ladybug punch.
Thank you so much for sharing how you created this milestone birthday card! I will certainly be making some, too!
Have fun making them!!

Patty, you truly knocked it out of the park with this birthday candle card. I have two significant birthdays coming up…60th for my sister-in-law and 100th for a gentleman friend who lives close by and they are going to love these cards. Fortunately, I will hand deliver both, especially the 100th birthday!!! Can’t wait to have fun making these cards. MANY THANKS!!!
Oh I hope they love them!!
Love this milestone card! In the process of cutting out 80 candles!!! Thanks for the idea!!
Patty I agree with everyone who commented on this card! So fun and lots of great uses. I was looking for a special birthday card for our grandson 18th and this is just the perfect one. Just love all your tips and tricks in your video! Trying it today.
thank you for sharing <3
Hi Patty –
Love this card! I started cutting strips to make some myself. The leaves from the Cherries Builder punch make great candle flames also, and you can punch two at a time!
Wow! How serendipitous! I just CASED this card for my sister-in-law’s 60th birthday. Thanks for the great tutorial and the tips to help the card go together so quickly .
I lovd this idea. I made a long card for an elderly cousin a few years back. I didn’t watch the whole video – went off half cocked and started in. I made the flames with the marble yellow paper and cut my candles at 1″ x 3″. My card base I cut at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, so I have a white space at the top of each page I need to plan for. I need to add on one more page to have a plain one for the front also. Now for the fun! My ex will be 91 this month. You know how many slices and punches that takes???? I know my son & DIL will love it – that’s who I kind of made it for. Ex – ??? I’ll see if I have a box the right size oro use a brown mailing envelope for it. My base strip was 2″. I’ll have to take a photo and send one to you when I’m done Thanks so much!
Perfect timing Patty! I was just looking to make an accordion candle card for my girlfriends 70th birthday. Thank you SO much!
Patty,
I am in the process of making the epic birthday card for my soon-to-be 94-year-old father-in-law. In addition, I am making a card for my friend that is turning 50.
Thank you for sharing this card idea, and providing instructions.
Awesome!! Hope they love them!!
My aunt will be 100 in May.. I knew I wanted to make her a special card and this is just perfect. I sent a 4×5 1/4 basic white card stock to each of my siblings and their kids and their kiddos to write a birthday message to her. I’ll affix them to the back of each panel.
What an absolutely fantastic idea!! Thank you for sharing that!!
Love this card. I’m in the process of making an 80th birthday card for my husband’s long time friend. Since we will be attending his surprise party in NC I can hand deliver it. Very clever. I’m trying to see if one of my stampin friends has the bird punch to use tho.
LOVE these candle cards…I am going to ake some…GREAT way to use up scraps or any papers. ////so you can buy NEW papers hahah..great idea
Thank you so much for explaining this card in detail. I jut made it for my Aunt’s 80th birthday and I know she will love it.
I was so impressed with your Milestone Birthday card I had to try one for my friend’s 70th birthday. Thank you so much for all the wonderful cards & ideas you share.
So glad you tried it!!! 🙂
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these special cards! TFS!
Patty, I found the video back, and I am so happy, because my younger son turns 40 in a few days. I needed a refresher on how you joined the pieces of cardstock. So clever to make a hinge on the back with patterned paper! I had visions of scoring 1/2” on the end, folding and gluing to the next piece of CS. I like your way so much better! I have been putting off making his card for days, because I just wasn’t inspired. When I remembered your video, instant inspiration. I just have to watch the rest of the video again, since it’s been a month or so since I first watched it. Is there a way I can send you a photo, when I finish it?
So happy you enjoyed it! I hope he loves his card! You can send me a photo through FB messenger.
Love this card will be making this for a friend who will be 80 in November. Thanks for showing the video 👍
