I decided to go a manly route for the Valentine cards I made for my guys this year.. I used the amazing Nailed It stamp set, matching Build It framelits and other Urban Underground accessories to make these fun cards!
I stamped all of the tools in Archival Black ink from Stampin' Up! onto Stampin' UP! watercolor paper and colored them with blender pens dipped in ink. More details below…
Side Note: do you know it's pretty difficult to photograph shiny reflective surfaces? :) I did my best.. the Hexagon embossed areas are Silver Foil and Copper Foil paper from Stampin' Up! – SO fun in person, but hard to get the great detail on camera.
In addition to the Silver Foil hexagon embossed area, I also used the silver foil for the hammer head, and the ruler. Both are die cut with the Built It Framelits. ENJOY a 10% money-saving discount when you purchase the tool set and die cut BUNDLE in wood mount or clear mount. (click on any of the product photos at the bottom of this post to order)
Lots of fun elements happening on these cards.. here are some highlights:
- Hexagon Dynamic embossing folder (I used Silver Foil and Copper Foil sheets)
- Urban Underground embellishments
- Urban Underground designer paper
- die cut tools, from the Nailed It bundle
- ruler die cut with silver foil paper and Build It framelits
- Top fold 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" cards are created with the Delightful Dijon and Basic Gray cardstock in the Urban Underground Cardstock pack
All Stampin' UP! Supplies available in my online store here, or click on any of the product photos at the bottom of this blog post to purchase from my online store. Find the Urban Underground suite on pages 46 to 48 in the 2017 Occasions catalog!
Below: the Urban Underground embellishments are "self adhesive".. just pick them up off the sheet and place them on your project.. SUCH a perfect addition to these cards!
I mentioned these were Valentine cards for my hubby and son, so I added the "love you lots" sentiment stamped on Whisper White in Real Red ink and punched out with the Classic Label punch. You could use this card design any time of year for the handyman or handy person in your life, and use any greeting or no greeting at all.
I think these would make perfect Father's Day cards as well! Or a birthday card for your handyman!
Nailed it stamp set and Build It framelits available as a money-saving bundle!
I did 90% of the coloring with my Blender Pen, dipping it in Stampin' Up! ink, and coloring on the die cut images stamped on Stampin' Up! watercolor paper. I did use the Aquapainter dipped in ink for the red hammer handle and for bits of Smoky Slate color on the wrench.
You can either use the ink refill (reinker) for each color and dip your blender pen or AquaPainter into the ink drops, or, squeeze the lid of each ink pad and dip your coloring tool into the puddle of ink in the lid.
Scroll down to see the color combo I used for these cards.
After coloring the tools and adding them to the cards, I grabbed my Clear Wink of Stella and colored over the wrench and the metal part of the screwdriver and they look really cool in person!
Thank you so much for joining me today! Leave me a comment and let me know if you have a handyman or handy person in your life that might like this card!! I know you will enjoy creating them!

You nailed it all right, Patty. This is such a wonderful design layout. I love the shiny embossed paper. I hear you about trying to shoot shiny paper. It’s frustrating for sure. You “nailed” this card to perfection.
