I discovered that this die cutting tip from Stampin’ Up! works really well with the Christmas Layers Dies!!
Turn your intricate dies UPSIDE DOWN and put them UNDER your paper, facing upwards, when die cutting them in your die cutting machine for amazing results!
Check out the results of this tip!
Above: you can see the immediate difference between the die cut on the top left and the die cut piece on the top right. I flipped the intricate snowflake die upside down before die cutting the one on the left, and there is a HUGE difference!! All of the pieces just fell out… didn’t even need the die brush!!!

Below: Check out the difference of the detailed snowflake die when die cutting with the die facing up instead of down!
To recap, use the regular “sandwich” that you always use when die cutting, but instead of the die facing downward on top of your paper, flip the die facing upwards with the paper on top! That’s all.. then die cut with your regular choice of platform and plates, and you should experience this amazing difference!! 🙂

Good morning Patty,
I always wondered about this and I was going to try it but never did….Thanks so much for the tip….. I get tired of trying to poke out all the tiny pieces…. Have a great day.
I believe placing dies this way will also cut down on cutting plate impressions because there isn’t as much pressure on your machine. Also use a new cutting plate as the bottom plate and it stays clean of impressions.
Oh my gosh are you serious!!?? I gotta try this!!
Great tip, Patty!
Thanks for this tip. Will try it.
Patty, did you use a precision cutting plate with yours? I’m thinking this would be a super tip for that great santa die I got a couple years ago and only cut once for this very reason. 🙂
Thanks for this tip. Can’t wait to try it out.
Thank you for that tip, Patty! You’re a creative genius! 🙂
